Hey guys, this is my first post. Okay, so let me tell you one thing, if anyone of you are using HP officejet pro 6830, 6835, 6812, 6815 & 6810, and if you are getting this Error message which says "Problem With Printhead", either on the screen of your printer or on the Screen of your computer, then without wasting any time go ahead and Contact HP.

The Problem With Printhead means that the printhead of the printer where you insert cartridges has gone bad because the printer is not able to recognize it. Some time the ink gets accumulated over the printer-head and it blocks the Printhead to talk with the printer. It is a major issue with the printer, as it is an issue with the Ink mechanism of the printer.
What causes this problem?
1. Most of the people faces this problem if you are not using the genuine cartridges. Some people thinks to get the Refilled or non-genuine cartridges which are cheaper to save their money, however after sometime the ink, which is of low quality accumulates over the nozzle and it blocks the the way.
2. The second reason for this issue is if from a long time you haven't used you'r printer or your printer is kept idle from a long time.
3. The third reason which causes this issue is if the printer is not connected directly to the wall outlet. Sometime, the printer do not gets the appropriate voltage on which it operates, if it is connected to a Surge Protector. So it is recommended to connect the printer directly to the wall outlet.
4. The fourth reason which causes this issue would be, if you have incorrectly installed the cartridges or the Printed to the printer.

- First of all Connect the printer Directly to the wall outlet, and check if you still facing this issue, then follow these troubleshooting steps.
- Perform the Hard Reset on the printer. Take out the power cable of the printer and then press and hold the power button for 60 Seconds. Generally some Static charge is stored inside the printer, if you perform a hard reset on the printer, it looses the static charge. Now connect the power cable back to the printer and try to print a Printer Status report (Go to Setup> Now go to Report/Tools> Printer Status Report). It may resolves the issue, if not follow next step.
- Take out the cartridges and try to Clean the Metal/Golden contacts which are on the back side of the cartridges and the carriage where you insert the cartridges, using a Lint free clothe or a paper towel. now insert the cartridges and try to print a Printer Status report (Go to Setup> Now go to Report/Tools> Printer Status Report). It may resolves the issue, if not follow next step.

It told me the warranty was up and did not provide any other way to contact them that I could find. After reading your post I called. ReplyDeleteLooks like it works. You cannot take care of this online. It does not seem to matter if the warranty is expired, because mine is. You will be speaking to somebody in India, so be very careful going over your shipping address. The HP telephone system makes it sound like you must hang up and take care of the issue online, don't believe it-just stay on the phone. The call will take about 20 minutes, and they don't play music on hold. Don't hang up. You will receive a confirmation by email.

ReplyDeleteI just called HP with this same issue and no questions asked I was told I would be sent a replacement. I'm sure it is a known defect and rather than do a product recall, they wait and see who contacts them. This may have been the easiest return process I have ever had. Don't waste time trouble shooting, just call!
ReplyDeleteI was skeptical but sure enough, I got my 6830 replaced with a 6835 for free. My printer's warrantee was expired but they sent me a refurbished one in just a few days. You do have to box up the defective one and send it back; they pay the shipping. Be prepared for a LONG, LONG wait on hold. I was "dropped" after about 20 minutes on hold and had to go through the whole automated response thing a second time but it was worth the wait. Thanks.

Inside the documentation it says that the old ink carttridges I have to recycle them and never use them as they will cause printing problems. My question is if this true or not or hp is just saying this so that you buy new cartridges. Anyone knows???

The HP number 800 474 6836 works. I just hit 0 key 4 or 5 times until I got offered to connect to a representative. They will replace the printer. Be sure to have the serial number handy, and also the FPU number, which is below the serial number, as in my case the serial number was not recognized.

The online link was easy to follow and when I entered the product and serial numbers found on the back of the unit, it immediately said I was eligible for a replacement and I've already received a confirmation email. After telling them what I knew about what they were doing with the card, all of a sudden the story changed about the card for collateral and didn't need my card. Right, don't fall for this

THANK YOU!! I, too, was about to go and purchase a new printer -- found this string and called the Tech Support number and am receiving a replacement printer via next-day air. Note that I called the HP Customer Service line yesterday and they were absolutely no help -- first call the woman said I'd need to bring the printer to the store I bought it at for service; second call the guy said the only thing they could do was sell me an extended warranty for $200 dollars (since my printer is more than 1 year old) and then they would fix it. Was majorly pissed, since the printer cost less than $100! HP was certainly on my @#&% list at this point. I did one last search for more info before I headed out to purchase a new printer (literally, had purse in hand and was almost out the door) when I found this information, called the Tech Services number (rather than the Customer Service number) and the gentleman I spoke with quickly and efficiently took care of the matter and sent the replacement printer out next day delivery. So, HP has come off my $%?@-list -- however, I am wondering why neither of the Customer Service people I spoke with gave me this information, they both asked for the name/model of the printer so it seems to me that HP isn't passing this information on to their CS people, which makes them not very effective at customer service! HP, pass this information on to your people so that they can effectively serve your customers . . . unless your hope is that your pissed off customers will just buy another printer???

DeleteSame problem. Before going to buy a printer, I called my computer tech, who told me about this information. After going through their difficult phone questions, they would not put me through to a tech. Customer Service basically told me that my computer was trash, go buy another one. I think HP is intentionally telling people at customer service to buy another one if you are not under warranty, hoping they will let the issue drop.

ReplyDeleteHp replaced my printer, I no longer have a printhead problem. I now have a scanner problem. I also noted a pool of ink under the cartridges when in the home position. With the cost of ink this printer should go to a landfill.

I called the 888-747-7948 number that the support document gave me. After being on hold forever the guy told me my printer was 547 days out of warranty and he could only offer me a HP Envy 7640 for $122.99. I am not paying that as the original printer was only $199. I have barely even used it. I will try the 800-474-6836 number next.

Bummer. I just called 1-855-709-2201, no wait time, but they said since my printer was out of warranty, they couldn't replace it. When I told them I had "heard" they were replacing printers anyway, he still said they wouldn't replace it.
ReplyDeleteI called and got a hold of someone, sweet kid, easy to chitchat with. They told me that my warranty was up (by only a few months) and wanted to send me a replacement HP Officejet 3830 for the VERY LOW PRICE OF $49 and no shipping. It's not compatiible with the ink I just bought so I asked him if I can return it and he said no, because it's open.
ReplyDeleteSo I'd have had to buy the printer and the ink. I went online to shop the ink cost while I still had him on the phone, and saw that every store has that same model for $49 so really that's no bargain!!! They just get to make more money off you.
Apparently this is a mechanical failure in the design, which I didn't know. Everything I came across said replace ink and download updated drivers and firmware. So HP just got $80 out of me for new ink (I thought I'd start there since my ink cartridges were old and suck). Nope. Apparently the ink cartirdges are the problem and they discontinued all the machines that use the 934XL and 935 except for ONE Pro6230...but they continue to sell the ink even though it's a problem and breaks the printheads.
Wish they'd send out a "recall" notice to everyone who wasted $150 on the printer and another $80 on ink. Kind of Wack :/ Going with a Brothers printer.
I just called HP and was told that they would NOT replace mine. They did offer what they told me was a discount on the HP 4650, but the price they were offering was the same as Best Buy (though HP claimed they would throw in "free" ink).
ReplyDeleteThis is the second time I've been through this process with the 6835. Indeed, HP used that as an excuse for why they should not have to replace this faulty product -- the same product that was faulty the first time this happened to me. I too am very frustrated and will be sure to complain publicly on their facebook.
Clearly they should have recalled these printers. I'll be finding another brand to buy this time around.

Ink over priced. Printers do not last.. Actually cost more to buy ink than to just replace the printer. HP is disappointing me greatly.

ReplyDeletenot sure but it seems like these break at about 6 months past warranty and I am looking for another brand before I buy another HP. I've had HP printers since the early 90's and lately it seems that they only last a short while. last 3 i've had not one of them last more than a year or so.
Called HP, offered to upgrade me to the replacement with a removable printhead. They are on sale right now she said. The funny thing is, I bought this due to buying a laptop that wouldn't work with my other "working" HP printer.

Now, not even 9 months of use (with is not in high volume) the printer is junk? Out of warranty? HP needs to do the right thing and recall all of these machines and issue a new one or a credit towards a similar product knowing that - even outside the warranty - the customer did not get use of the machine to warrant a complete loss. While on phone had Staples website open and saw that it was on sale for $99 down from $234. Just can't tell from Staples website if printer comes with ink cartridges. Am going to Staples to vent about HP and look into alternatives as not a big home user and seems the issue is lack of use.

I called HP support today about error received on a Officejet Pro 6835. I was offered the ability to buy a new (supposedly discounted) 8710 hp printer for #129.99, which was exactly the same price being offered by the big box stores.. No thank you! DeleteWe have been receiving the same printhead error with our HP Officejet Pro 6835. Spent a lot of time searching the Internet for solutions and came across this site. We were about to not bother calling HP assuming we would run into the same frustration as the recent people had who posted to this site. My husband decided it was worth a shot so we called the # referred to above (1.800.474.6836). Original tech basically said the same as above offering us the "discounted" HP printer which was no discount over what you can purchase at any other store. They said they had been replacing the printers for free while they were under warranty but now that it is no longer under warranty they are not doing that anymore. My husband pointed out that it is not a manufacturer warranty issue since HP's own ink is what is causing the printheads to fail. The original tech ended up transferring us to his supervisor who said the same thing and that he didn't have the authority to do anything more than offer us an additional $10 off the price of the $129 new printer. (No thanks - not good enough!) When we asked who we can talk to that does have the authority to do more he said that would be a case manager. He "opened a new case" for us which involved giving him our printer serial #, name, address, phone number, email address and put us on hold. (Note - both the HP tech and supervisor were very polite and helped to their capacity.) The case manager came on the phone (ended up finding out she was located in New Mexico) and she was AMAZING!!!!! Very helpful, courteous, professional and made us some happy HP customers once again. Side note: I had already purchased a new HP printer because we needed one for our store, but I hadn't taken it out of the box yet because our HP 6835 home printer started giving us this printhead error and we were strongly considering returning the HP printer and going to Epson or Brother from now on for all our printing needs. We had originally spent about $90 on our HP 6835 printer back in Oct 2015. She is sending us a $75 coupon to use at HP.com for whatever product we want. When we said that is helpful but what about all the money we spent on the new ink cartridges that caused the printhead to fail and are now useless to us? She then said she will also send us new ink cartridges to go in the new HP printer we had just purchased. When we asked what happens if we run into more errors with HP in the future she gave us her direct contact information and said if we have future problems we can contact her directly to avoid having to go through the other people to get to a case manager. She said she would then open a new case for whatever any future problem might be. WOW!!! Never expected this excellent customer service after all the negative reviews I have read. I guess the key is to remain calm and not give up after the first 1 or 2 layers of customer service give you their canned responses of what they can do. I never post things on the Internet but couldn't help but post this time since I was about to give up hope and have been happily surprised. Hope this helps others out there. :)

OMGoodness I went thru hell and back for 1 1/2 hrs calling and getting nowhere in the Philippines and after asking over and over to speak to someone in the US and being told there is no number to transfer to..... almost ready to give up FINALLY got transferred to a supervisor who transferred me to a case worker in the USA.....lonnnnnnnnnng story short Michelle from NMexico took care of me and I am getting a voucher for a new printer and the printer is less than what the voucher is worth so I will get to spend a little more she said on whatever I want.....
